 Ingenious Trends in Life Sciences on 6th and 7th October 2017

Considering the current scenario a two day National level conference on “Ingenious Trends in Life Sciences” was organized by department of Microbiology, Abeda Inamdar Senior College on 6th and 7th October 2017.The workshop was sponsored by BCUD Savitribai Phule Pune University.Lab Code Company was a major sponsorer for the conference.  

On the first day, the Chief guest for the conference was Dr P K Dhakephalkar, Scientist F , ARI ,Pune who also gave the key address. Dr. Dhakephalkar spoke on the topic “Putting Microbes to the Task”. The other guest speakers were Dr.Anjan Banerjee, IISER.Pune who spoke on “A Tale of Long distance signaling in Potato” This was followed by poster session .There were 70 posters which were judged by Dr. Mrs.  Rajashree B. Patwardhan, Haribhai Desai College, Pune, Dr. Anjan Banerjee, IISER.Pune and Dr. Mrs. Ruksana Rub, Sinhagad College , Pune.

On the second day the Guest speakers were Dr. Nilima Deshpande, A. Garware College, who spoke on “Current Trends in Antimicrobials”.  Dr. Jyutika Rajawade , ARI, Pune who spoke on the topic “Nanocellulose and its applications in tissue engineering” and Dr. Leena Yeolekar, Scientist , Serum institute of India, Pune who spoke on the topic “Recent Trends in Human Viral vaccines”  The chief guest for valedictory function was Dr. Leena Yeolekar .This was followed by discussing the outcomes of the conference by the Co-ordinator  Dr,D.R. Majumder. Prize distribution for the poster competition brought the conclusion of the program.

The vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs. Mansura Mulani.

During the 2 days of the conference various eminent personalities doing active research enlightened the audience with their work. All the sessions were wonderful followed by a brain storming Discussion session. A total of 200 participant including staff and students were present for the conference. On the whole the workshop was very enriching and fruitful.


AVISHKAR Orientation lecture 2015 Report


The department of Microbiology, M.C.E. Society’s Abeda Inamdar Senior College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune 411 001 had organized a lecture series for Orientation of students for the Avishkar competition conducted by BCUD.The event was organized on Wednesday, 26 thAugust 2015 from10.00 am-1.30 pm, at HI-TECH Hall , Azam Campus, Pune 411001.Around eighty students along with few staff members from various colleges like H.V. Desai College, Allana College of Pharmacy, Fergusson College and Abeda Inamdar Senior College participated in the orientation program.Convener Dr. Snehal Kulkarni gave a brief introduction about the activity “Avishkar’ and how it is beneficial for students. The speakers were introduced by Dr.Oberoi ,Dr.Rane and Prof.GauriDevasthale.  The Speakers were felicitated with a sapling at the hands of Vice Principal, Dr.Bootwala. The Guest speakers, Dr.Laware and Dr.Jayabhaye, guided the students regarding making of posters and presentation of scientific data in appropriate manner. Dr. D.R.Majumder, Head, Department of Microbiology also guided the participants regarding working on research projects and presentation of scientific data. The lectures proved to be very beneficial for the participants. Prof.Nusarat Shaikh proposed the vote of thanks.



A one day URGS, SPPU sponsored programme was hosted by the Microbiology dept. of Abeda Inamdar Senior College, Azam Campus, Pune-01.The Programme was conducted on 14/10/2017 from 10 am to 1 pm in the PAI Hi tech Hall of Azam Campus. The Main aim of the event was to arouse interest and make the students aware about the Avishkar Competition.After the registration and tea break the Programme commenced with the Tilawat-E-Quran. The first Speaker for the event was Dr R. G. Jaybhaye, Associate Professor, Dept. of Geography, SPPU .He spoke about the Avishkar Competition and its different levels. He also guided students about the criteria for the selection in the same. Sir also guided the students on Poster making and how one should make a poster in a scientific way.The Second Speaker was Dr. D. R. Majumder, HOD and Associate Professor, Dept. of Microbiology, AISC. She beautifully spoke on What is Research? She stressed on Discovery, Creativity, Inventions and Innovations with beautiful examples. She also linked all these terminiologies. She motivated the students to think out of the box. Be different and unique.The third speaker was Dr.Snehal V. Kulkarni, Associate Prof. Dept. of Microbiology, AISC who amazingly explained the students about , How to make a good Poster. She also stressed on How to present the Poster in a very simple yet humorous way.While the Welcome address was proposed by Dr Shaila Bootwala, Principal, AISC. Dr D R Majumder introduced the Microbiology department to the students. Ms. Amrita Bhatia discussed the aims and Objectives of the Avishkar Orientation programme.Dr Jaybhaye was Introduced by Prof Pratibha Jadhav , Dr.  D. R. Majumder was introduced by Prof Kirti Dahigaonkar.Dr Snehal V Kulkarni was introduced by Dr Jaspal Kaur Oberoi.The final Vote of Thanks was proposed by Prof Nusarat S Shaikh.The Anchoring of the Programme was done by Prof Vaishali Prabhune.The Convenor of the Programme was Prof Amrita Bhatia.The Programme was a grand success with around 60 participants registered.




The Microbiology Department of AISC organized an Orientation Lecture under Workshop on Avishkar Research Competition on 6th September’2014 at Conference Hall, A.K.Khan Law College, Azam Campus, Pune.The Chief Guest for the programme was Dr. K.C.Mohite.The speakers were Dr. P.N.Mukhopadhyaya and Mrs. S.V Kulkarni. Dr K C Mohite created awareness about the upcoming events in AVISHKAR 2014-2015 .He also stressed on the details of competition and relevant areas in which projects can be carried out. The other two speakers focused on how to prepare a poster and also its effective presentation. We are highly grateful to BCUD, Savitribai Phule Pune University to give us an opportunity to conduct this workshop. Overwhelming response and participation from staff and students of various colleges in large numbers made this event a grand success.

Training & Consultancy


Future plans for hands-on training in Protein Biochemistry and Molecular Biology techniques.

  1. Department of Microbiology in collaboration with Shri Samarth Institute conducted a workshop on ‘Basic Course in Bioinformatics’ during October 2012. The Department has signed MoU for the add-on course of ‘Basic Course in Bioinformatics’ which will be conducted every year.
  2. The Department has started training on Good Laboratory Practices for students according to WHO guidelines.
