The Department of Mathematics was established with the inception of the college. The department started T.Y.BSc (Mathematics) in 2003 and in a short span of time introduced a postgraduate programme in 2005. The M.Sc Mathematics courses has a sanctioned intake of 85 students. The students actively participate in various curricular and extracurricular activities such as Quiz Competitions, Science exhibitions, Collage competitions, E-waste poster competitions and Street plays. The Department has long-standing associations with several institutes of national repute. It has an MOU with Bhaskaracharya Pratishthana Research Institute and Indian institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune. The Mathematics Academy, Abeda Inamdar Senior College has also signed an MOU with the Eagles Tomorrow Education Society, Canada, Math Yes We Can Education LLP, India. Under this MOU, the Math Yes We Can program is implemented in selected schools in Azam Campus. Among the facilities offered is an enriched departmental library. The library has been developed with the help of two prestigious grants received from the National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) and Society of Indian Academics in America (S.I.A.A). The departmental library has a collection of 2078 books. The department has a consistent record of excellent results with 3 university rank holders at undergraduate level and 19 university rank holders at postgraduate level including two gold medalists. Every year, students are encouraged to apply for various summer schools and annual foundation schools. The Mathematics department not only looks into the academic progress of the students but also the financial support. Till date, the department has supported a total of 111 students by providing scholarships through NGOs, management of the college, staff and students. The total amount provided as scholarships to students is Rs. 8,67,210/- so far. The Department also runs the ‘Mathematics Academy of Azam Campus’ with an aim to recognise and nurture talent in mathematics at an early age. Under the aegis of Mathematics Academy, the department conducts variou activities like quiz competitions, guest lectures and mathematics exhibitions for students from Class I - XII. As a social responsibility towards the society, the students of the Department of Mathematics collected an amount of Rs. 8,98,311 /- to support the treatment of Ms. Deepika Kholiya, a student of M.Sc-II in 2014-2015 who was suffering from Blood Cancer.
