    Marathi is one of the major languages in India, spoken largely by the people of Maharashtra. The migration of Marathi-speaking people has taken the language to South India as well as abroad. The Department was established in 1995. Marathi is offered as a general subject at F.Y., S.Y. and T.Y. levels in the Arts faculty and as an optional subject for F.Y.B.Com and S.Y.B.Sc. The departments organizes various activities like Marathi 'Shuddha Lekhan Spardha’, ‘Marathi Essay Writing Competition’, ‘Marathi Kavyvachan’, ‘Marathi Quiz Competition’, (Prashna Manjusha), ‘Paper Presentation’, ‘Marathi poster competition’, ‘Elocution Competition’, ‘Rangoli Competition’, and Inter Collegiate Essay Competition etc. The Department of Marathi celebrates Marathi Day, (‘MARATHI SAPTAH) from 21st Feb to 27th Feb, very enthusiastically every year. Marathi is a compulsory subject in the MPSC competitive exams.The department of Marathi takes special efforts to motivate students to enroll for various competitive examinations like MPSC, and UPSC.
