The Department of Chemistry and Post-Graduate Research Center has been involved in teaching Undergraduate students since 1992 and Post Graduate courses in Chemistry since 2002. For the overall development of students, the Chemistry Department conducts various co-curricular activities like Chem-Quiz, Chem-Fest, Science Day, Industrial Visits, Social Rallies, Orphanage Visits, Blood Donation Camps, Lecture Competitions. It also organizes guest lectures by eminent scientists. The Department is a recognized Research Center in Chemistry affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University for Ph.D since 2004. Eight students have been awarded a Ph. D. degree and currently nine students are pursuing their doctoral degree. The department has well-equipped laboratories with high-tech instruments like the Flash Chromatogram, HPLC, GC, FTIR, UV-visible spectrophotometer, Cyclic voltameter, Spectrophotoflourimeter, Thermogravimetric analyzer and microwave synthesizer. In an effort to promote interdisciplinary research, the Department has recently set up the Advanced Scientific Laboratory (ASR Lab) fitted with a CO2 incubator, ELISA reader, Bio-Safety Cabinet, Ultra Centrifuge and Deep Freezer. Adding to its profile, the Postgraduate and Research Centre in Chemistry has signed MoUs with reputed international and national institutes to promote collaborative research. The Department has successfully organized 03 International Conferences on “Herbal and Synthetic Drug Studies (HSDS-2010, HSDS-2014 and HSDS-2016) and 01 International seminar on New Horizons in Cancer Research (NHCR-2015). It has several ongoing research projects with international laboratories. The faculty members have published over 50 research papers in international and national journals. Research grants of more than rupees Forty lac have been sanctioned by various funding agencies viz. UGC and BCUD, Savitribai Phule Pune University.
