    The Department of Botany was established in June, 1991. The department has highly qualified staff, 2 spacious laboratories, a herbarium and a plant tissue culture facility. Presently, Botany is offered as a general subject at the F.Y.BSc and S.Y.BSc level. The department plans to introduce a specialization in Botany for T.Y.BSc. As the syllabus focuses on Horticulture and Agriculture, study tours and visits to the Hi-Tech Floriculture, Mushroom production unit, Biocontrol labs, Biofertilizer unit and Biotechnology units at the College of Agriculture, Pune. The aim is to balance a student’s theoretical knowledge with the practical aspects. The department conducts skill development workshops to equip the girl students on “Fruit and Vegetable Preservation” in association with the Food and Nutrition unit, Ministry of Women and Child development, Government of India. The department also conducts short term courses on Plant Tissue Culture techniques. Students are encouraged to participate in various intercollegiate competitions i.e. Flower arrangement, Projects, Oral Presentation etc. The staff members are actively involved in interdisciplinary research, participate in workshops on syllabus framing and present research papers at National and International conferences.
